initially ideated to time obstacle courses, “Z Speed Timer” is a checkpoint based timing system with under a millisecond of precision. This is accomplished with clever networking and syncing the clocks of all checkpoints routinely with an rf blast. This RF system uses a custom protocol designed by myself. This revision (rev2) is the final revision on an off-the-shelf devkit. The core of the project is an esp32-S3, for which I prototyped some firmware (sensors, outputs). The key networking components and final revisions were written by Sam Downey, my partner in the project. revision 3 (in progress circa 03/2025) will move to the espressif esp32-s3 wroom-1 mini and include a low drift tcxo for even more precision.
